Call of Duty: Vanguard is finally there and Zombie players are incredibly upset about the lack of round-based cards. Normally zombies cards forcing the players to survive in a spacious area while trying to complete a complicated main task or just try to improve their arsenal and continue as long as possible. This year, the formula was significantly changed.
The only zombies card available to the start is the beginning that plays in a converted multiplayer card. The main area of the card acts as a turntable, and the players must enter portals to achieve targets in smaller areas to get into the next round. This is a great deviation from what zombies players are used to, and the reception is largely negative.
Why does not Vanguard have no round-based zombies cards?
It does not look like Vanguard in the future also get traditional round-based cards. At least not as fans are used to. In the interview with gamespot, some Treyarch developers shared some insights into the new design philosophy of the studio in terms of zombies.
I think we have reduced the lap-based experience, says Gavin Locke, Associate Director of Design at Treyarch. The constantly growing challenge and choice how to play and unlock the map, we wanted to integrate these elements and then we used the goals as a goal.
If Outbreak is an extreme and RBZ [round-based zombies] is one, very directed versus very open, we have taken the ingredients of both and mixed them together. So you can get into action faster, but there is still a player agency like Outbreak offers you. We try to offer a bit of news from the best of both worlds, adds creative specialist Miles Leslie.
Treyarch experimented intensively with the zombies formula in Black Ops Cold and led new modes like outbreak into the series for the first time. In the cold war, however, there were still traditional round-based cards. With Vanguard, the studio seems to double the changes in the Cold War. However, this does not mean that traditional zombies will not return.
Are round-based zombies cards after publishing to Vanguard?
Treyarch has the possibility that round-based zombies cards could come after the start to Call of Duty: Vanguard, not explicitly denied, but it does not seem likely. Creative Director Miles Leslie says that lap-based, as you know, could be incorporated into some other mechanics.
We do not forget the RBZ fans, Leslie continues. You will be satisfied [with] some coming stuff that will be pretty cool, I think. This does not mean that round-based cards come back, but it does not mean that they are gone forever. However, with the strong reactions of the zombies fans at the beginning, Treyarch could change his plans for post-launch content and deliver things that make traditional zombies fans happy.
Black Ops Cold was a lot of support after the start of Treyarch, and while the studio is undoubtedly hard on his nearest mainline call of duty title, Vanguard Zombies will continue to receive updates and new seasonal content as well as multiplayer and Warzone. The beginning could possibly develop something that Treyarch s vision remains faithful and at the same time finds a way to soothe traditional zombies fans, or a new card could be released, which remains true to the lap-based formula. As it looks now, however, we are stated.
In our Call of Duty: Vanguard-Review we were lukewarm in this new version of Zombies and said, Overall, it s hard to say how zombies will develop from here. The beginning is a strong start for Treyarch s new zombies vision, but with just one card at startup and only one handful of portal zones feels like the start of Black Ops Cold was. There is no doubt that Vanguard Zombies will eventually become a content-rich mode, but as it looks, there is not much to do.
Call of Duty: Vintage is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S.
